Black Balloon Day Returns March 6th to Honor Overdose Victims

BATH, N.Y. (WENY) - In March, Steuben County will recognize those who have passed away due to overdose.
On March 6th, they will be remembered on Black Balloon Day.
The Steuben prevention coalition will join the national remembrance with black balloons flying throughout the county. According to the new National Opioid Overdose Tracker NEMSIS, Steuben County has a higher-than-average opioid overdose rate compared to the rest of New York.
Black Balloon Day started in 20-16 in Massachusetts by Diane Hurley and her daughter, Lauren Cook after the passing of their family member Greg Tremblay.
The father of four, Tremblay died of an overdose on March 6th, 20-15.
He was 38.
