BATH, NY (WENY) -- The Bath VA Medical Center is hosting a series of open houses over the next several weeks, to inform veterans about benefits linked to service-connected toxic exposures and expanded presumptive conditions.

The PACT Act was signed into law by President Joe Biden in September 2022. The law expands VA health care and benefits for veterans exposed to toxic substances, from Agent Orange during the Vietnam War, to toxic burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan post-9/11.

Representatives with the Bath VA Medical Center will host three open houses, with the goal of meeting face to face with veterans across then Twin Tiers, to educate them on the extended health care eligibility and expanded presumptive conditions.

Veterans will be able to talk with VA representatives and doctors, be screened for toxic exposure, as well as meet with veterans service officers who can assist with benefits claims, as well as enroll in VA healthcare.

The first open house will be held at the Bath VA Medical Center on Tuesday, March 21st, from 2 - 7PM. A second will be hosted on March 23rd at the Italian American Veterans Club at 1070 Magee Street in Elmira from 2 - 7PM, and a third on April 11th at the Tokishi Training Center at 124 Nypum Drive in Wellsboro, PA from 2 - 7PM. All events are free to attend; pre-registration is recommended but not required.
