HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- A 33-year-old man is accused of stealing copper from the construction site near the Horseheads High School football stadium.

According to Horseheads P.D., Joseph L. Paul was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal trespass, and grand larceny.

Police said they responded to a report of stolen copper wiring at the Horseheads H.S. construction site on Sunday morning. The copper was contained in a large spool with orange or yellow insulation. Investigators canvassed the area, and reviewed video surveillance of the area. Later, police got a search warrant for two locations, one in the Village of Horseheads and one in the City of Elmira, and remnants of copper insulation were found.

The Chemung County Sheriff's Office and the Elmira City Police Department assisted in the investigation.

Paul was released and given appearance tickets to appear in court at a later date.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with any information should contact Horseheads Police at 607-739-5668.
