Republicans, Democrats Split on Trump's Indictment to Overturn 2020 Election
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Our local members of congress are speaking out following former president Donald Trump’s indictment, charging him with attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
Congressman Nick Langworthy (R- NY) shared on Twitter: “The politically-motivated indictment of president Trump is Washington corruption on full display. The DOJ is working to distract Americans from the evidence developing in our investigation into the Biden crime family.”
Many congressional republicans are supporting the former president but congressional democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D- NY), called the latest indictment “the most serious and most consequential thus far and will stand as a stark reminder to generations of Americans that no one, including a president of the united states, is above the law,” said Schumer in a joint statement with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D- NY). “The legal process must continue to move forward without any outside interference”.
We expect the president to make his first court appearance on these charges tomorrow.
