Severe weather threat includes high winds, isolated hail, tornadoes
An enhanced risk of severe storms is expected for our region. Following a lull in the morning, we can expect two rounds of heavy rainfall and storms, of which could possess severe qualities. Keeping an eye on the sky is going to be imperative throughout the day as conditions evolve, as lines of threatening storms have the potential to develop as the day rolls on. A light warm front drapes over the region late this morning, allowing for some parts of the Finger Lakes Region to catch some storms. Some of the most prominent threats include small hail and predominately gusty winds out of the west. Later on as a cold front passes through the area instability is expected to increase dramatically, allowing for intense rainfall to cover the whole of the Twin Tiers. An isolated tornado CANNOT be ruled out today as conditions evolve.Following sunset, conditions are expected to improve. A few showers could linger just after 8:00 p.m. but afterward a few passing clouds will dot the night sky. Some clearings can be expected, allowing for decent views of the Perseid meteor shower.
