Meet Lovey, WENY's Pet of the Week from the Horseheads Community Animal Shelter!
HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Meet Lovey, WENY's Pet of the Week from the Horseheads Community Animal Shelter!
The 6-year-old pitbull was an owner surrender and previously lived with ten other dogs. Staff from the shelter say he would fit best in a home where he is the only pet around.
When it comes to cats, he appears to do well around as he doesn’t interact much with them, but Lovey certainly lives up to his name says Mike Bombarger, the shelter’s dog handler.
“He's just a big lover. You could see he’ll be all over you. He'll climb up on a couch with you, get underneath the blanket, you have to uncover his head, or he'll get too hot underneath there.”
Lovey lived in a home with other kids of different ages, so he is able to adapt well around children. He also has a basic understanding of commands such as sit, down, and stay says Bombarger.
“He's probably not going to learn anything, just because -- I mean, he would learn it if you really wanted to, but he is just kind of set in his ways. He's a lap dog. That's all he is.”
It’s recommended to have Lovey get accustomed and eased into playing with other dogs, considering he used to live with ten other dogs where fights often took place.
Horseheads Community Animal Shelter will be holding an adoption event Nov. 11th open to the public. More information on the event will be posted through the shelter’s Facebook page.
If you or someone you know is interested in adopting Lovey, fill out an application on the Horseheads Community Animal Shelter website to be considered.
