ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Republican Cheryl Insinga defeated Democrat Deirdre Hay for a seat on the New York State Supreme Court.

With all precincts reporting, Insinga, an attorney, received 52% of the vote. Hay, a lawyer and adjunct professor at Cornell University got 48% of the vote.

Insinga reacted to her win on Facebook saying, "I am honored to have earned the voters’ trust to serve as the next State Supreme Court Justice in the Sixth Judicial District. For the next 14 years, I will strive to serve with honor and distinction, ensuring that all who come into the courtroom are treated fairly and impartially in the eyes of the law."

District six of the New York State Supreme Court covers Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Madison, Otsego, Schuyler, Tioga and Tompkins Counties.

Election results are unofficial until ballots are certified by the Board of Elections.
