Horseheads football looks for revenge against Vestal in section title game
HORSEHEADS (WENY) - The Blue Raiders are on the road this week as they take on Vestal for the Section IV Class A championship title.
The two teams met in the regular season just under a month ago, the Golden Bears taking the win 28-7.
Head coach, Kevin Hillman talked about what Horseheads needs to do to get that section title.
"Obviously the guys are kind of motivated from the loss last time. Hopefully, offensively we're looking to move the ball a little better than we did last time, we didn't do a great job, we got ourselves a lot of three and outs, things like that, so we're just looking to get a little more rhythm on offense. Defensively, I thought we played pretty well, we just gave some big plays in the passing game. So we gotta do a better job there but overall I think these guys know that if they play hard and they play well, they can compete."
The Blue Raiders went 7-3 overall in the regular season.
Quarterback, Dominic Cardinale spoke about the teams main goal.
"Just keeping the energy up is our main focus. Try to keep everyone together. We move as a unit down the field, that's 11 men work better than 1, or you know, half and half. That's definitely our main two things we just preach."
Center/DT, Taliq Weigle shared how much winning would mean to him.
"It's exciting. It's something our program hasn't done in almost 30 years now, and to be able to do it with this group of guys, we're all really close and it's just really special."
