ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Elmira police and emergency crews are on scene where officers say a car hit a pedestrian Tuesday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Clemens Center Parkway and East 2nd Street around 6:15PM. According to an Elmira police officer on the scene, the victim is a man who was crossing the street with his wife when he was hit by an oncoming car. Police say the victim suffered a head injury, and is being taken by ambulance to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.

Police say the victim was wearing dark clothing when the accident occurred. The driver of the car remained on the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
