HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Runway for a Cause held its 5th annual show Saturday afternoon at The L in Horseheads.  Every year the show benefits a different cause, and this year's proceeds are going towards CASA of the Southern Tier.

"[CASA of the Southern Tier] essentially helps children in the foster care system have a safe space, and make sure that they have somebody who is in their corner," said Lindsay Whitney, a committee member for Runway for a Cause.

CASA of the Southern Tier serves Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, and Yates counties. There were raffles, food, and merchandise being sold at the show, all for the cause. One designer says she has been participating in the show since the very beginning.

"I think its great that we're giving back to a local cause, last year we gave back to a really great cause for sex trafficking, and that was a worldwide campaign. now we're really focusing local, the southern tier helping children and families locally, so i think its going to be able to make a bigger impact this year, being such a local organization," said Hannah Garrett, a designer with Studio Grey.

In addition to benefiting CASA of the Southern Tier, Runway for a Cause also gives young designers and models a unique experience.

"I think it has been an amazing experience.  It is really giving back to not only our community, but is giving back to local organizations, helping other small businesses, and designers from high school and models from high school.  So it's really introducing them to an experience we wouldn't get otherwise, being in upstate New York," added Garrett.

To date, Runway for a Cause has helped donate over $20,000 to different charities.  Organizers say they are already looking forward to next year's show.
