Explore Steuben App is making it easier to know what's happening this holiday season when planning ahead
CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- Christmas is soon approaching, and Steuben County is ringing in the holiday season with traditional celebrations kicking off this weekend. Explore Steuben is making it easier for everyone to mark their calendars.
Dave DeGolyer, communications manager for Explore Steuben, says festivities start as soon Dec. 1st.
“The Spirit of Christmas is an event in Bath, it takes place from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There's a parade at 6 o'clock with Santa arriving. There's Christmas tree lighting, elves and, you know, singing and lots of vendors and stuff like that.”
“The Spirit of Christmas” will be at Pulteney Park in Bath, followed by the 49th annual “Sparkle” celebrations in Corning on Dec. 2nd. The Crystal City Christmas season will have five blocks blocked off on Market Street, with a number of vendors, caroling, and dancing.
“There's actually going to be fire spinning this year, so that'll be a new piece added on. And that's from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday.”
The fun doesn’t end there – on Dec. 9th Hammondsport Village Square will be hosting Christmas in the Park for the chance to meet Santa. That event will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for everyone to meet Santa and his reindeer. DeGolyer says this is an opportunity for all families to head on out and get in the holiday spirit.
“These are old fashioned, traditional holidays, small town holiday events, and those are the real big ones. But even Bully Hill Vineyards is getting into opportunities where kids can go meet Santa, families can go on the 2nd and 9th and the 16th. Visit with Santa and then even have lunch and the kids 10 and under can have a free lunch, you know So it's kind of an opportunity to you know, give back a little bit too.”
Additionally, other events include:
- Holiday Open House at The Corning Museum of Glass - December 2nd to the 3rd from 9am-5pm (includes FREE admission)
- Holiday Bazaar at the Curtiss Museum – December 2nd 10am-4pm. Free admission with a donation of one canned good. All donations benefit local food pantries. Vendors offering a variety of handmade crafts, gifts, treats, and more.

DeGolyer says downloading the Explore Steuben application is not only free, but also lists everything one would need to know when looking for activities or places to visit.
“[Explore Steuben App] presents all the different tourism entities in Steuben County. So there are about between 400 and 500 of those, you know, businesses and such. It also has events, it has trip ideas and, itineraries to suggest.”
