(WENY) -- With Christmas spirit comes holiday lights with many houses in the Twin Tiers giving Santa's workshop a run for its money.

"So fifty years this has been in our family's name it was actually my grandparents who came over from Ukraine," says Elmira resident, Jason Holmes.

Elmira resident Jason Holmes puts lights up at his home every year in memory of his grandparents who owned the home for 50 years. He says he wanted to take the house over to honor their memory.

"I took it over about three years ago and just started decorating the house in the spirit of them," says Holmes.

From inflatables to twinkling lights many homes across the Twin Tiers have taken part in illuminating the Christmas spirit.

Sayre resident Minnie Hunsinger says the inspiration behind decorating her home is more than festive lights.

"Ever since my husbands parents separated over four years ago we decided to create the whole house up for his father, they haven't been decorated since then so we wanted to warm his heart and bring the spirit back to him," says Hunsinger.

This year one Elmira resident named Lindsey Celeste, has put together a map of the best spots to view lights and displays in the Southern Tier. She is asking the community to help her find more homes with spectacular displays.

"If anybody wants to put their house on the map or they see a really great house with a phenomenal display, they can email me at [email protected] and just send me the information," says Celeste.
