SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Food Bank of the Southern Tier announced on Friday, January 26th that it has partnered with Tops Friendly Markets, Jubilee, and Save-a-Lot retailers as part of the 2024 Check Out Hunger campaign. The  annual community-wide fundraiser lets local grocery stores collect monetary donations to help combat local hunger.

“Check Out Hunger is the Food Bank’s largest fundraising campaign of the year. Without support from the community, we wouldn’t be able to continue to meet the increase in need we have observed across the Southern Tier,” said Mark Bordeau, President & CEO of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.

The way it works is shoppers can donate $2, $3, or $5 directly at the register,  which will then be added to shoppers' final checkout total. Bordeau said that the food bank can provide six meals with every $2 donated.

"So the impact is exponential," said Bordeau.

Shoppers can donate at Tops Friendly Markets from January 21st to February 10th. Jubilee Foods and Save-A-Lot will be taking donations from January 28th to March 2nd.
