CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- Summer Cohesion will be celebrating 50 years of programming for youth and families in Chemung County this summer.

After Hurricane Agnes in 1972 caused catastrophic flooding, it highlighted the need for more summer youth programs for children.

From there, the Elmira City School District alongside seven other partners created “1974,” now formerly known as Summer Cohesion.

The program then transitioned into a county program under the Chemung County Youth Bureau in 1977.

There has not been a date announced for when and where the two events will take place.

The Chemung County Youth Bureau says more updates are still to come.
