State and federal dollars to go towards semiconductor production

ALBANY, NY (WENY)--OVER THE NEXT TEN YEARS GLOBALFOUNDARIES, A MANUFACTURING FACILITY IN SARATOGA COUNTY, PLANS TO CONSTRUCT A NEW FAB WITH BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN PUBLIC-PRIVATE INVESTMENT—ADDING THOUSANDS OF JOBS IN MANUFACTURING AND CONSTRUCTION.

GOV. KATHY HOCHUL SAID AS GLOBALFOUNDARIES WORKS TO CONSTRUCT A NEW FACILITY, THEY WILL HAVE SUPPORT FROM THE STATE.

“We say you’ll get the support, create the jobs, create your fifteen hundred jobs, create the construction jobs and we’re there to support you as you continue to grow,” she said.

EARLIER THIS WEEK THE WHITE HOUSE ANNOUNCEd $1.5 BILLION IN FEDERAL GRANT FUNDING FOR SEMICONDUCTOR FACILITIES IN NEW YORK AND VERMONT.

SOME FEDERAL LEADERS SAid THESE FEDERAL DOLLARS WILL HELP INCREASE SEMICONDUCTER OR CHIPS MAKING PRODUCTION CAPACITY AND SECURE SUPPLY FOR THE AUTO AND DEFENSE INDUSTRIES.

“The growing conflicts between Russia and particularly with China—one of the reasons they threaten Taiwan is because Taiwan is where so many of the chips are made and China is where so many of the chips are made. If they could cut that off, they could cause a recession in America immediately. We cannot let that happen,” said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
