Man Charged with Murder after assault in Erwin

2:00PM 2/22 UPDATE: New York State Police held a press conference on Thursday, identifying the victim as Heather Moran, the sister of John Marvin, II. Authorities accuse Marvin of assaulting his sister with a cast iron frying pan, causing her death.

6:30PM 2/21 UPDATE: Charges against John Marvin have been upgraded to second degree murder, as of Wednesday evening. According to New York State Police, the victim died from her injuries in the hospital on February 21st. 


ERWIN, NY (WENY) -- A Painted Post man is in the Steuben County jail on attempted murder charges, after a violent assault.

New York State Police say around 5PM on February 20th, Steuben County 911 received a report of a person being assaulted at a home on Victory Highway in the town of Erwin. When state troopers and Steuben County sheriff's deputies arrived on scene, they found a 54-ear-old victim suffering serious injuries. The victim was airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, where they are listed in critical condition.

Police arrested 59-year-old John N. Marvin, II on charges of 2nd degree attempted murder, and 1st degree assault. Marvin is currently being held in the Steuben County jail, pending arraignment.
