HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Meet Luna, WENY’s Pet of the Week from the Horseheads Community Animal Shelter!

Luna is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and beagle mix according to her paperwork from when she was a puppy. She is seven years old and is looking for a forever home now.

Mojave Moffett, a handler at the shelter describes Luna as a dog who loves the center of attention.

“She is a little finicky, but treats are the way to her heart. So, they definitely do calm her down and help her.”

Moffett however says Luna is picky when it comes to socializing with other pets and would be better off living in a home where most of the attention is focused on her.

“She is a little bit picky with other dogs. So, she does need her personal space and no cats for her either. So probably just some calm dogs or just adults in the household.”

Luna previously experienced an injury to the leg as a young dog but has not shown any visible signs of it affecting her health now.

“[Luna] has recovered since and so she overall is pretty healthy” says Moffett.

Overall, Moffett says Luna does not like to be left alone “she is okay with it,” but adds she would rather have attention on her – recommending Luna would best fit with someone who is home most days.

The Horseheads Community Animal Shelter is looking for donations for senior dog food and softer treats that can be dropped off in person.

If you know anyone interested in adopting Luna, apply by visiting the shelter’s website.

Luna returned to Good Morning Twin Tiers on April 1st as she's had potential applicants apply, but according to Moffet, she says the offered environments were not the best fit for Luna and should be in a home with adults or older kids.

Moffet also added Luna has been recently spayed and is ready to go!
