HORSEHEADS, NY (WENY) -- A man is facing a number of charges after police say Eaton Corporation suffered over $800,000 in damages over the weekend.

Horseheads police were called to Eaton Corporation on Westinghouse Circle at little after 6PM on Saturday, March 30th for a report of a suspicious incident. A caller reported to police a person was seen inside a fenced-in area, and seen tampering with equipment.

Once on scene, police and employees who responded to alarms discovered someone had shut down several large valves related to nitrogen and hydrogen storage, as well as managed to shut down the fire suppression system related to hazardous gases. According to police, the tampering caused pumps to overheat and stop functioning, for gas to be vented off and production to shut down.

In total, police say the estimated damage and loss of production to Eaton Corporation exceeds $800,000.

On April 1st, authorities located 32-year-old Cory Roth at the Relax Inn on Fisherville Road. Roth is charged with third degree criminal trespass, second degree criminal tampering, second degree criminal mischief, and second degree grand larceny. He was arraigned in Horseheads Village Court and released.

According to Horseheads police, it appears Roth acted alone, and is not a former Eaton Corporation employee.
