ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Two men are facing charges, following an incident in the city of Elmira Tuesday evening.

On April 9th around 6:48 p.m., Elmira Police Officers responded to the 1000 block of North Main Street for the report of a man threatening people with a gun, who was with another man who was also allegedly threatening people with a knife.

When officers arrived, police said they found the man who matched the description of the suspect who had the knife and was taken into custody without incident.

Officers were able to quickly identify the other man who reportedly had multiple guns. Police said at the time, the man was seen in an open window on the second floor of a nearby home.

Authorities said because of the weapons concerns, police closed traffic in the surrounding areas and were able to talk with the suspect, who surrendered to police after about 40 minutes.

EPD executed a search warrant at the home and said they found multiple firearms and large quantities of ammo. Police said neighbors told them the suspect had allegedly pointed guns at people, and guns matching those descriptions were recovered.

Police charged 45-year-old Benjamin J. Luisi with 2nd Degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and 33-year-old David P. Haynes with 2nd Degree Menacing.

Authorities said additional charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.

Both men were held at EPD pending arraignment in Elmira City Court on Wednesday, April 10th.
