ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- At around 1:00 pm on Sunday, the Ithaca Fire Department responded to a call at an apartment building on Lake Street. Smoke was seen coming from the roof, prompting a third alarm to bring in more mutual aid.

Additional support was needed and provided by the Lansing, Newfield, and Cayuga Heights Fire departments. Firefighters were able to locate and extinguish a fire in the ceiling of a third-floor bedroom. One person was taken to the hospital by Bangs Ambulance.

At this time the cause of the fire is unknown, and investigations are ongoing. The incident required Lake Street to be temporarily closed. It was reopened at 2:15 pm.
