WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) - It's officially IMSA week at Watkins Glen International with many events scheduled leading up to Sunday's Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen.

The race week kicks off on Wednesday evening with the IMSA Preview Party in the Yard. Gates open early Thursday morning with events for fans, practices, qualifying, and races taking place throughout the rest of the weekend.

On Saturday, The Esses 120 hits the track at 12:55 PM followed by the Weathertech Championship Qualifying at 3:30 PM.

The Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen race is set for 11:10 AM on Sunday.

President of Watkins Glen International, Dawn Burlew talked about the excitement surrounding this week with race season returning to the area.

"The excitement out here started when we had our opening weekend there in April and then we've actually just been building on it," Burlew said. "As you see the signage go up and the grass cutting happening and new painting that's going on at the track when the track gets re-striped, that is just exciting to see. So the fans and the race weekend, that's the cherry on top of the whole thing."

Burlew also had a message for those who have not attended IMSA weekend.

"If you haven't been to the IMSA race, the whole weekend of activities is very family oriented so if you haven't been, it's a great time to come and enjoy Watkins Glen International and support the Sahlen's Six Hours, the Esses 120 and the Weathertech event so that's the big thing is come and enjoy the track and come out and see what's in your backyard," Burlew said.
