CORNIING, N.Y. (WENY)--  The Southeast Steuben County Library in Corning is one of many locations serving as a place to go for people looking to beat this heat.

''We are a New York State Cooling Center. You can come in, sit, cool off and read a book. You do not need a library card for that. You can just come in and grab a book from the shelf and read it,'' said Sue Mcconnell, the Children's Librarian at the Southeast Steuben County Library in Corning.

Sue says that there are many families without a goof quality AC unit. The kids can come in on a sizzling day, enjoy a book or participate in the programs hosted at the library.

''We got so many things happening this summer. There are magic shows, story time sessions, painting classes, Tanglewood and we have a Kid's Farmer's Market where kids can come and get fresh produce'' said Sue Mcconnell.

Sue said that anyone can come in and grab a free lunch that library provides Monday to Friday. There are also a number of other official cooling centers located around the area. You can find that list here.
