ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- A man is in the Chemung County jail on a parole violation, as well as multiple criminal charges and traffic citations after the alleged theft of a motorcycle in the city of Elmira that led authorities on a chase Saturday evening.

According to the Chemung County Sheriff's Office, officers responded to a report of the theft of a motorcycle outside the Burger King on Lake Street in the city of Elmira around 10:30PM Saturday. The owner of the motorcycle reported seeing the bike being stolen, and was following the person. 

The person accused of stealing the motorcycle, 33-year-old Edward Robinson, who is homeless. Police accuse of Robinson of driving the motorcycle out of the city and into Elmira Heights, where Elmira Heights and the Chemung County Sheriff's Office joined the chase. The pursuit continued into the village of Horseheads, where authorities say Robinson was caught, and examined at the hospital before being released.

The Chemung County Sheriff's Office charged Robinson with 4th Degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer, 2nd Degree Obstructing Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest, and 3rd Degree Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, as well as 14 traffic infractions.

Authorities say Robinson was also a parole absconder, having been released on parole in July of 2023 following a felony conviction out of Schuyler County.
