CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) The Head Start in Chemung County is getting just over $4 million dollars in federal funding. The money is going to the Economic Opportunity Program, and will also support Early Head Start programs.

“Head Start and Early Head Start programs provide critical early education and developmental support to children from low-income families, ensuring they have the tools needed to thrive in school and beyond,” said Congressman Nick Langworthy, in a prepared statement.

Head Start is designed to support children's growth from birth to age 5 through services centered around early learning and development. Langworthy made the announcement about the funding on Thursday, June 27th.

“I’m thrilled to announce this significant $4 million investment in the future generations of Elmira and Chemung County. Investing in our youngest learners not only sets them up for success but also strengthens our communities and economy in the long run," said Langworthy.
