ELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. (WENY) -- A new art studio in Elmira Heights is giving the region a place to let their creative minds run wild through painting and many more artistic mediums.

Emerald Canvas Art Studio held open painting sessions today for anyone interested as part of their opening weekend. Festivities officially kicked off on Friday with a movie night, where participants painted the characters from the Disney film, Inside Out.

"There's a lack of, anything to do that's like creative and just fun, and sit down. And then I wanted to open it up to other, online small businesses. So if someone has a talent at crocheting, they can utilize our space to do crocheting. Or any kind of crafts," said co-owner Andrew Harvey.

More fun is around the corner with a Bob Ross-themed paint night set for Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Located in Elmira Heights' business district, Emerald Canvas is a creative hub providing workshops for painting and craft-related activities. The space is focused on being a family-friendly and constructive space for artists of all skill levels.

"It's not something you have to plan around where you have to schedule like dropping off the kids and stuff like that. It's really more walk in, have a fun time, walk out, and there's no set time frame on it. Just enjoying those open paint days," added co-owner Nathan Gilbert.

Emerald Canvas Art Studio is located at 164 East 14th Street in Elmira Heights. The studio can also be booked for private events such as painting themed parties, birthday gatherings, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and more.
