BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- On Monday the Steuben County Hall of Fame welcomed its class of 20-24 into its ranks, but the Steuben County Historical Society is already preparing for its next class for next year.

There are over 150 people enshrined in the Steuben County Hall of Fame, they range from civil servants to educators and all the way to veterans and pop culture icons.

The Steuben County Hall of Fame welcomed four new distinguished individuals to their ranks earlier this week. The inductees include author and wildlife photographer Charles Alsheimer -- history scholar Helen Brink -- medical innovator and world traveler James Walker -- and Otto Marshall, a original settler of Wheeler.

"This is kind of like your typical hall of fame for like a sports hall of fame or music hall of fame, but what's different is that these are just everyday people, citizens of Steuben County that made an impact in their lives and to other fellow citizens and around the world even in some cases."

There's no requirement for nomination, simply if you feel like someone should be in the hall, you can nominate them. Nominating someone is as simple as filling out a form found on Steuben County's website, a committee of six individuals then evaluate the applicants.

"There is really no limit to how many people can be nominated, but the limit for induction, which is the official process of selecting out of the bigger pool of people who have been nominated, the committee then selects a few handful that seem to be perfect for the Hall of Fame that goes to the legislative body to approve it," added Bates.

Currently a space exists for a physical hall of fame, but the plan for the future is to potentially move to a larger, museum-like environment.

"We do have a physical hall of fame that is in the main office building of the Steuben County government, which is at 3 East Pulteney Square. If you go into that main office building, if you go up to the second floor, the Hall of Fame is in one of the hallways so you can go and actually physically see all of the inductees. So there is a physical space, but I do plan on maybe making more of a museum type space," remarked Bates.

The Steuben County Historical Society encourages those interested in submitting a nomination to do so, as the process of evaluating the potential class of 2025 begins when the applications start coming in.
