UPDATE 11:35 p.m. (7/26): Two pedestrians that were hit by a vehicle Friday night at the intersection of S. Main St. and W. Hudson St. in Elmira were taken to a hospital for medical evaluations, according to a press release sent to WENY News by Elmira Police.

Police say their investigation into the incident is ongoing, and they will not release any more information at this time.


ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Four pedestrians were hit by a vehicle Friday night on Elmira's Southside, according to Elmira Police. Police could not initially confirm how many of those hit were hurt. 

The incident initially closed S. Main St. between between West Chemung Place and Henry St. West Hudson St. was also closed between S. Main St. and Clemens Center Parkway.

Initial calls for first responders to respond to the scene came out around 9 p.m.

WENY News crew on scene saw a medical helicopter land in the former Tops parking lot around 9:42 p.m. One person was seen being loaded into the helicopter.

No word from emergency crews on scene as to how many of those pedestrians were hurt, and what happened leading up to the accident.
