WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) -- Glasses were poured and laughs were being shared all over Watkins Glen International for the highly anticipated Finger Lakes Wine Festival today.

People were right in the heart of New York's Finger Lakes Wine Country and fully embraced what the area had to offer. They traveled from all over to check it out over 90 New York State wineries spread out on the grounds of WGI.

Some guests said they were excited to try different things and meet new people.

"Well, I think it's always a good thing to try and get outside of your element," said Chris Sisko, an attendee. "Outside of where you live to see the other parts of the county and the country and to see what they experience, and this is a great experience. Never been to Watkins Glen before, not a NASCAR fan, always heard of it but this experience and venue are phenomenal."

Many people said they had traveled from hours away because they heard about the festival or had attended years prior.

"I'm from Richmond, Virginia," said John Murphy.

"I'm from Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania," said Bob Brish.

"I'm from Honesdale, P.A., my sisters are from Wilkes-Barre P.A.," said Jennifer Crum.

Alongside the big event, the tasting, guests got to experience a big selection of food, live music, and check out a variety of merchandise from vendors. However, there was one perk of being out at a race track that guests enjoyed.

"It is so fun," said Crum. "There's so many people. So much wine, so much food, you can't beat it and, the best part, is the race track. Getting on that 10 ten dollar ride, can't beat it."

Every year, the Finger Lakes Wine Festival has a high attendance and, no matter where people came from, they said they are looking forward to coming back again.

"I've never been to this wine festival," said Murphy. "I've heard it's pretty crazy, hasn't gotten crazy yet, but I've had a great time today. Really good wine, Weis is my favorite winery and I will come back again next year if I can."

The 2024 Finger Lakes Wine Festival is held at WGI from July 26 - July 28. So, if you're interested, there is one more day to get a taste and ride in a race car before the annual celebration ends for the season.
