ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Elmira Aviators will be hosting their very first Youth Hockey Camp for aspiring young players.

Head Coach Cody Murphy of the Elmira Aviators, who was recently appointed in May of 2023, says this is a great opportunity for young athletes in the area looking to work on their skills with the incoming junior team.

Coach Murphy recommends children ages 4 to 14 to sign up, though accommodations can be made if needed.

“We'll make an exception for any player that sees fit and wants to play, hockey's for everybody. Really what you can expect is us catering to what your needs are.”

Whether you have years of experience on the ice, or just beginning to test your skills on the ice, all levels are welcome to sign up.

“If you're also brand new to the game, you know, we want to give you a great first impression and let you have a ton of fun.”

Murphy also emphasizes just how crucial community involvement is when connecting with children through these resources.

“The idea was to get involved in the community, and I think gathering more support in the community is also through the kids.” He adds, “With our president of hockey operations, Ray Welsh, it's more than just a vision with our junior team, but it's also giving back to the community and having young players be involved in it.”

Be on the lookout for future camps hosted by the Elmira Aviators, as Murphy says the community can expect more programs like this in the future.

“[This is] just the beginning and definitely a lot to look forward to.”

Youth Hockey Camp will take place from Aug. 23 through Aug. 25 at the LECOM Event Center, located at 155 N. Main St.  Elmira New York.

Tickets cost $25 per player – registration can be found using this link.
