The four columns have been temporarily removed from the entrance of the Arnot Art Museum
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY)-- The Arnot Art Museum might look a little different in the coming weeks as the four pillars at the entrance of the museum have been temporarily removed.
'' They are 181 years old . They've been holding up that roof, doing a great job for all of that time. They are 180 year old construction technique. So, there was some water incursion, so we needed to make sure that they would be in good shape for another 180 years,'' said Rick Pirozzolo, the Executive Director at the Arnot Art Museum.
It's called the' Four Column Project'. The four columns were removed so that rehabilitation work can be done
The project is expected to take about 12 weeks, with the goal of being done before the snowflakes arrive.
The goal of the project is to maintain the architectural integrity of the Arnot Art Museum for years to come.
Rick says that, even though the columns have been removed, the building is completely safe. The museum is still open and visitors should follow the open signs on the building
