Two-year-old Toddler Hit by Car in Corning and Driver Charged

CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- Corning City Police responded to an incident where it was reported a two-year-old child was hit by a car on Relihan Blvd. Authorities say the child was behind the vehicle when the driver, Zachary Whitney, 20, began to back up and accidentally hit the child.
On Tuesday, August 13th, Emergency responders treated the child at the scene before airlifting them to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials say the child is expected to make a full recovery.
Whitney was arrested and charged with impaired driving, unlicensed operation, and unsafe backing. He was released and will appear in court at a later date.
