HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY)--  Calvary Chapel Twin Tiers will be moving to Westlake St. in Horseheads after being situated in Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira since 2009.  This new location is at the grounds that the former United Pentecostal Church once occupied.

''We decided that we were going to sell that church and move to a location that is little smaller, a little more homey and little more family-oriented, kind of why we chose this new building in Horseheads,'' said Pastor Frederick White.

Pastor White wishes to invest more time and resources in the needs of the community rather than the needs of a physical building.

Chuck Smith started this non-denominational movement back in the 1960s. In those days, there were only 25 churches. Today, there are over 1,600 Calvary Chapel churches.

''All these hippies and drug addicts including my pastor, started coming to the church to fellowship. They gave their hearts to the Lord and the movement has grown throughout the country and we are just a part of that,'' said White.

The 1st Sunday Service in the new building is expected to take place on September 8th. However, due to renovations, he believes that the church will be in full swing starting in November.

''We want people to grow. We are not about growing the church in numbers. We want to see people grow in their personal relationship with Jesus,'' said White.

Calvary Chapel Twin Tiers will have programs for kids, bible study for all and regular food services. Their new location is at 106 Westlake Street in Horseheads.
