ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The City of Elmira has torn down a house located 909 Davis Street that was previously listed on the City's Fight on Blight List. According to Elmira City Manager Michael Collins, the property had multiple complaints from neighbors after parts of the residence had already collapsed.

Collins said Deputy Mayor Joe Duffy led the charge to get the house torn down due to concerns over the hazardous conditions. The Bronx, New York City based owner will be on the hook for removing the rubble, which still remains at the site.

If the city is forced to remove the rubble, Collins said the cost would be owned to the owner's property tax bill. Collins cautioned this tear down does not represent the start of a trend, and that the home was only torn down due to its unique set of circumstances.
