$19,000 raised by Sayre restaurant for local causes
SAYRE, Pa (WENY) -- Sam's Bar and Grill in Sayre wrapped up its annual 'Summer of Giving', raising $19,000 for local causes.
According to the restaurant, they raised $11,000 for the family of Quincey Root, a friend of Sam's Bar and Grill who lost his life in a motorcycle accident. For the past six years, Sam's and other local businesses, organizations, and the community have donated to Root's son, Jamison, totaling almost $82,000.
“The annual Quincey's Cause Ride for Jamison has been a testament to the compassion and unity of our community, and Sam's Bar & Grill would like to extend its deepest gratitude to all the generous sponsors, businesses, organizations, and community members who have made this event possible year after year. Together, we have made a significant impact on the lives of Jamison and his family," said Jeff Lantz, the owner of Sam's Bar and Grill.
Sam's is now choosing another cause to support, Kids Can't Fight Cancer Alone (KCFCA). KCFCA aims to alleviate the burdens that families may encounter during a cancer diagnosis while offering much-needed financial and emotional support. Across the summer, they were able to raise $4,511 for the organization.
The 'Summer of Giving' also benefited a third cause, for Brian Lee Sargent, affectionately known as "Sarge" who passed away unexpectedly this summer. More than $4,000 was raised to help his family cover funeral costs.
According to the restaurant, on October 19th from 1-5 p.m, they will be raising awareness and support for Samantha Rouse, a loving mother of 3 children, who is facing cancer for the second time. They aim to raise funds for Samantha's treatment at HOPE4Cancer, a non-toxic and integrative cancer treatment center. They will have southern pulled pork BBQ Dinners with baked beans, coleslaw, and a roll for $10.00 each, as well as a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and a bake sale.
