SOUTHPORT, N.Y. (WENY) -- Cherry Lane Mobile Home Park has a new owner, and he's hoping to turn the troubled property around. During a public comment at Tuesday night's Southport Town Board meeting, James Voorhees discussed his plans for the park.

"The deed has been transferred to me and I'd like to do what I can to straighten things up over there. I really don't know too much about what you people want from me. I know we need to tear down some trailers. I don't know if I need a permit to take them down or not. I want to continue with it. Tell me if I need a license or what," says Voorhees.

The previous owner of Cherry Lane Park LLC transferred the deed to Voorhees and Smith for one dollar on Friday, October 4th. Just in the past year, the park has seen several trailers condemned and several of them were demolished in the fall of 2023.

In August of 2024, the town board revoked the park's license to operate, after the previous owner failed to honor the terms of the license agreement.

The park is currently without running water after the Elmira Water Board shut off service on September 24th due to the lack of payment. Southport's Code Enforcement posted a notice on every trailer door saying they were not safe to live in.

As of October 8th, Code Enforcement and the health department both have their warnings still posted on the trailers, saying they are not habitable.
