ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Congressman Nick Langworthy made a stop in Elmira Wednesday afternoon, as part of his campaign for re-election.  Alongside Assemblyman Phil Palmesano, Elmira Mayor Dan Mandell and City Manager Mike Collins, he touted GOP economic policies.

"That's why this election is about more than just politics. It's about the future of the American dream, especially for our communities here in the Southern Tier," said Langworthy.

Langworthy said President Biden's policies are to blame for "crushing tax hikes" and the economy getting off track.  In his speech, he said inflation is increasing rapidly.

"Right now, families in the Southern Tier and across this country are spending $13,000 more per year just to cover basic necessities than they were under the Trump administration.  If we don't go to the ballot box this year and demand a change, its only going to get worse," remarked Langworthy.

Congressman Langworthy touted better economic policies under a Republican led administration.  He says the cost of everything is up from groceries to gas.  Langworthy also mentioned Trump's 'Tax Cuts and Jobs Act' which will expire next year.  The congressman said the law changed things like deductions, expensing, and tax credits that affect businesses.  He says small businesses, middle and working class families are being crushed by inflation.  Langworthy says Republicans are committed to cutting wasteful government spending, restoring fiscal sanity and stabilizing our economy.  Both Langworthy and Assemblyman Palmesano empathized they would like to see Republicans take back control in Congress and the White House.

"Ladies and gentleman, change is needed. Its long time past due that the state of New York and Washington put the interests of our families, public safety and crime victims, law enforcement, tax payers, small businesses, manufactures, farmers, seniors, veterans, and everyone else ahead of criminals and migrants here illegally," said Palmesano.

"I want to make sure the same opportunities are there for our kids and our grandkids generations. and as a father, my wife and I raise our 10-year-old daughter and two-year-old son and we think about that a lot. But that American Dream has been a promise for generations that if you work hard and you believe in this country, that you can build a better future for yourself and your family," said Langworthy.
