ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Members from the Elmira Downtown Development are inviting the community to a ribbon cutting ceremony later this week. On Wednesday, November 20th, there will be a ceremony at 12PM to celebrate a new pole barn that will used for iconic Downtown Elmira Holiday parade floats.

The pole barn is located at 717 Dickinson Street in Elmira and will provide a much needed space to protect and preserve the parade floats.

In a written statement, Janis Witchey, the President of Elmira Downtown Development said, "This new facility represents much more than just a building. It's a testament to our community's dedication to preserving traditions, supporting local events, and ensuring that our parades continue to be a highlight of the year."

The pole barn will be the 'central hub' for storage, upkeep, and preparation of the parade floats.

After the ribbon cutting, people can take a tour of the pole barn and see some of the floats that will be housed there.

The project was made possible through collaborative efforts with the City of Elmira, the American Rescue Plan, and generous community contributions.
