Several Southern Tier counties get federal money to prevent terrorism
NEW YORK (WENY) -- Several counties in New York's Southern Tier are getting new funding from a federal grant to support counterterrorism efforts and emergency preparedness in the Empire State.
Chemung, Steuben, Schuyler, Tompkins and Tioga Counties are all receiving funding from the initiative. Chemung County is getting $145,106, Steuben County is seeing $110,965 in new money while Schuyler County is getting $46,946. Tioga County is receiving $59,750 and Tompkins County is getting $98,160, according to New York State.
Counties can use the program for a host of initiatives including increasing protection of public spaces, combating domestic violent extremism, enhancing community preparedness, enhancing cybersecurity and election security and more.
The funding is part of a $220 million federal investment to prevent terrorism and other emergencies in the Empire State.
