Mansfield man pleads guilty to arson charge after allegedly burning donation shed
WELLSBORO, PA. (WENY) -- A Mansfield man pleaded guilty to one arson charge after allegedly burning down a clothing donation shed in Richmond Township, according to the Tioga County District Attorney's Office.
Fred Carew Jr. was initially arrested after he allegedly set fire to the shed behind the Mansfield VFW on June 27.
According to the criminal complaint, the fire had completely consumed the shed and was starting to damage the back of the VFW. A Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal believed it was suspicious as the shed did not have electricity or other components that could catch on fire on their own.
Carew was initially charged with Aggravated Arson, Arson with Intent to Destroy, Arson: Recklessly Endangering Property, Arson: Endangering Property and Criminal Mischief. He took a plea deal, and has pleaded guilty to just one arson charge.
Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 27. Carew faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000.
