Chemung County Habitat for Humanity and Elmira Elks Lodge host 2nd Annual Cornhole for a Cause
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- On Sunday afternoon, the Chemung County Habitat for Humanity and the Elmira Elks Lodge teamed up to raise money for a good cause. For the second year in a row, both organizations played Cornhole for a Cause to raise funds for building accessibility ramps for local seniors.
Around 30 teams signed up to play double-elimination games and try their hands at moving up in the bracket.
Between registration, a 50/50 raffle, and an auction, proceeds from the event will go to fixing up properties and building accessibility ramps for local seniors and families in need.
Last year, the organization raised around $4,000 and was able to build three ramps here in Chemung County and say they're aiming for the same goal this year.
"There's really no greater thing than being able to have a home that you feel safe and comfortable in, and so to have to leave that because it's no longer accessible for you, that's really something that we find, you know, that we would like to help keep people in their homes," said Emily Barrett the executive director of the Chemung County Habitat for Humanity.
Dozens of community partners worked with the Elks Lodge and Habitat for Humanity by contributing food, gift cards, and raffle prizes.
Barrett adds that if anyone else would like to get involved with the Chemung County Habitat for Humanity or any events they have going on, you can head over to their website for more information.
