TOWN OF ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Town of Elmira planning board met Monday night, and the proposed West Hill solar farm and battery storage site was on their agenda.

Originally, the board was expected to vote on the proposal.  However, Carson Power, the developer of the proposed site, requested the meeting be adjourned so a bigger venue can be booked.  A representative for the company said they want the community to be able to attend and have their concerns addressed.

"We also are intending to bring a battery safety specialist, a group of New York City firefighters that educate fire departments. That's what we're planning on contributing to train the Elmira Fire Department on battery safety, so [the specialists] have a presentation that they'd like to provide," said Nicholas Cunha, senior project developer with Carson Power.

According to town officials, that meeting is tentatively taking place on March 3rd at Hendy Elementary at 7 p.m.  They say it could change, and to check the Town of Elmira website for updates.
