ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- A Chemung County grand jury has indicted an Elmira man, following an armed robbery of a beverage store on New Year's Eve.

James Bailey, 55, is indicted on charges of 1st Degree Robbery, and Menacing a Police or Peace Officer. According to the indictment from the Chemung County District Attorney's Office, Bailey allegedly robbed the Quality Beverage store on Maple Avenue in Southport at knifepoint on December 31st.

The indictment alleges Bailey threatened to harm the cashier with two large knives if the cashier tried to stop him, and then had another person steal beer from the store. When state police arrived, Bailey is accused of approaching a state trooper with the knives, and refusing orders to drop them.

Bailey is currently in the Chemung County jail.
