UPDATE: The Ithaca Fire Department released information on Tuesday morning's fire.

The fire department says the Tompkins County 911 center received a call that a deep fryer was on fire, and employees were evacuating the restaurant.

When firefighters arrived, the fire spreading throughout the building. It took crews about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control, but spent the next two hours opening up void spaces and putting out hotspots.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury, but no other injuries are reported. 

The restaurant sustained substantial damage.


ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Ithaca Fire Department responded to a fire at the Wendy's restaurant on Elmira Road this morning.  

According to a Facebook post from the IFD, officials are advising the public to avoid the area until further notice. 

At this time, no additional details have been released regarding the cause of the fire or any reported injuries.
