Steuben County Youth Bureau opens first facility in Bath and welcomes community for Open House week

BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- After being around for nearly 40 years, the Steuben County Youth Bureau finally has a spot to call home. The Center for Youth Services is now housed on Liberty Street in Bath and is helping kids access a variety of community resources.
From February 18 to February 21, an open house event is being held at the Steuben County Youth Bureau's new location for people to take a look inside, celebrate, and participate in daily programming.
The program's coordinator, Bill Caudill, says he aims to use the space to help kids find the services and support they need, no matter what they're going through.
"It's a challenging world. I guess it is for every generation," said Caudill. "But you know there are some unique challenges for this generation right now that I didn't have, that many others before us didn't have. So you know it's constantly trying to keep up with the kids as best we can and, you know, help them out."
Finding your place, finding your path, and finding hope are just a few of the goals of the Steuben County Youth Bureau and, for decades, the bureau has helped kids and families across the county do just that without a facility to operate out of. However, the new space allows the bureau to continue this mission.
"The Youth Bureau has been around for 40 years, but I wanted it to be a place where a kid or a family could go to seek services, whatever they might need," said Caudill. "So I'm trying to bring a lot of those services here."
To celebrate the grand opening, Caudill organized a week of diverse programming for local families, youth, and service providers to attend, working alongside several agencies that will cycle in and out of the building every week to share information with kids.
On Thursday afternoon, members of the Steuben County Child Advocacy Center hosted a short film screening to talk about human trafficking education and support.
"It's very important to get out the word, to be able to have children understand what it is and who they can go to, to be able to talk to people that are safe," said Brice Sebring, the coordinator of the Steuben County Child Advocacy Center.
Whether kids are seeking help, support, or just a space to figure things out, the Center for Youth Services is opening its doors. Caudill says they are largely driven by the needs of students and will help to refer them to wherever or whoever they need.
"We don't have a direct relationship with the Steuben County Youth Bureau," said Barbara Hubbell, the senior director of impact for the United Way of the Southern Tier." We do partner on projects periodically and we care about the same things. We care about children and families in Steuben County and how we all work together to meet their needs."
The Steuben County Youth Bureau is located at 115 Liberty Street in Bath and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
If you'd like to check out the facility, you still have one more day to drop by for open house hours. On Friday, the community is encouraged to come take a look at the facility from 11:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
