Today, Governor Josh Shapiro announced that $2.1 billion in federal funds have been unfrozen.

The Pennsylvania governor sued the federal government almost two weeks ago, saying $2.1 billion in funding that was contracted to the state was inaccessible.

Most of those funds were for programs in the Department of Environmental Protection— like plugging abandoned mines, water treatment plants, and rebates on energy efficient appliances for Pennsylvania residents. on the federal funding frozen for some state departments in the commonwealth.

Shapiro said since filing the lawsuit, Pennsylvania lawyers engaged with the Justice Department. Shapiro himself spoke with senior staff in the Trump administration when he was in Washington D.C. last week for the National Governor’s Association annual Winter Meeting.

Between those efforts, the all the funding lined out in Pennsylvania’s lawsuit was made accessible.
