ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WENY) - The Empire 8 Conference announced it's 2024-25 Women's Basketball All-Conference awards today, and a local standout earned one of the league's top honors. St. John Fisher senior guard Sidney Tomasso has been named Empire 8 Player of the Year for the second straight season, further solidifying her place among the conference's best.

The Waverly native has been a dominant force for the Cardinals throughout her career, but this season in particular, she took her game to another level. Tomasso led the Empire 8 in scoring, averaging 19.2 points per game, and ranked second in the league in rebounds with 9.3 boards per contest. She also made an impact defensively, averaging 1.8 steals per game while shooting an impressive 86.5 percent from the free-throw line, the second-best mark in the conference. Her 147 made free throws led the league by a wide margin.

A three-time All-Empire 8 First Team selection, Tomasso has been a model of consistency for St. John Fisher. She scored in double figures in 24 games this season, recorded 12 performances of 20 or more points, and notched 12 double-doubles. With her second Player of the Year honor, she becomes just the sixth player in Empire 8 history to win the award in back-to-back seasons.

Reflecting on the honor and her final season, Tomasso shared her excitement and appreciation for the journey.

"I was really honored to receive the award again, " Tomasso said. "It's bittersweet just because it's my last year, but I'm really happy about it and glad I could end the season on a good note. This year I wasn't necessarily working toward that specific award, but I just wanted to finish my senior year the best way I could. I was a little extra competitive this year and just pushed myself to do whatever I needed to for the team's success."

With her senior season now complete, Tomasso leaves behind an incredible legacy at St. John Fisher University, cementing her place as one of the best players in program and conference history. Tomasso told WENY Sports she wants to continue coaching basketball at the collegiate level after she graduates in May. She said she also hopes to pursue an MBA.
