(WENY) -- There's so much happening at the Southeast Steuben Co. Library in Corning in March. Children's Librarian Sue McConnell joined us in studio, to talk about some of the fun things kids, teens, and families can participate in this month.

Some of the crafts kids can do this month, include a spring gnome and making the 'Perfect Pet.'

"[It's] a pet that requires no care at all. They'll get a little fish bowl, we'll put some pompoms in the bottom for the gravel. [They will get] an adorable crocheted fish from Art From Mars. (No needles or sewing required.) [They'll also get] a fake plant, [so they] don't have to worry about keeping that alive. [It's] the 'Perfect Pet,'" said McConnell.

That event is happening on March 21st at 2 p.m.

Every month, the Southeast Steuben Co. Library shows a family movie. March's movie is 'Harold and the Purple Crayon.' It's happening on Saturday, the 8th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and it's rated PG. No registration is required.

Since St. Patrick's Day is coming up, kids can try their luck at catching a leprechaun with Miss Sue.

"The Friday before St. Patrick's Day (March 14th at 11 a.m.), you've got to try to catch a leprechaun. So with our preschoolers, we are going to read some leprechaun stories but we are going to make leprechaun traps and see if we can catch one of those tricky little things. [We'll leave out] gold for them, anything shiny, or green because it's their favorite color... Every year we keep our fingers crossed and every year we do not catch one. Maybe this is our year," said McConnell.

McConnell said New York State has a program called, 'Agriculture in the Classroom' and this year's book is 'The Pie that Molly Grew.'

"It talks about the life cycle of a pumpkin and at the end, she makes a pumpkin pie. So at the end of the program, we are going to make some mini pumpkin cheesecakes and make some pumpkin Play-Doh. (Everything in it is edible but it might not taste good," said McConnell.

The Pie That Molly Grew event is happening on the 17th at 10 a.m.

On March 18th, homeschoolers can visit WENY to see what it's like behind the scenes. Parents must drive their children to WENY. The tour starts at 1 p.m. and no sign-ups are required.

On March 24th starting at 1 p.m., kids can bring in their LEGO mini figure(s) to swap with other kids.

"If you've got duplicates of LEGO mini figures that you want to swap out, bring as many as you want, leave with the same amount. Only bring the ones you're willing to part with," said McConnell.
