Police: standoff in Owego ends with one man in custody on multiple charges

OWEGO, N.Y. (WENY) -- One man is in custody after a standoff in the Village of Owego that happened in the early morning hours of Monday, March 3. According to the Owego Police Department, Charles Beuter has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful imprisonment, assault, menacing and reckless endangerment.
According to police, they became aware of an alleged violent domestic incident that happened on Talcott Street after the alleged victim escaped and reported the incident to police. Police say the victim was physically assaulted with weapons, which included the discharge of a firearm, and was allegedly told by Beuter that he would kill her, her family, and any responding police.
As a result, the New York State Police Special Operations Response Team was called in due to a lack of resources after police say Beuter isolated himself in a shack. Police say Beuter was taken without incident, and is being held on $150,000 cash bail.
Police said that during the incident, nearby schools and school resource officers were kept informed of what was going on, and responded accordingly.
