ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Cornell University is set to expand its engineering college because of a $100 million gift coming from alumnus David Duffield. The donation is the largest in the college's history and looks to fund the expansion of Duffield Hall, home of the school for Electrical and Computer Engineering and new research labs.

Duffield is an entrepreneur and the founder of many companies, including PeopleSoft and Workday, and has been a continuous supporter of Cornell. His previous contribution helped establish Duffield Hall, a now leading science and engineering facility.

The project will be 130,000 square feet and include renovated AI robotics and semiconductor research space. Construction will begin this year, with completion in 2027.
