STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) — Steuben County is gearing up for an exciting March, with a variety of events for families, outdoor enthusiasts, and beer lovers. Dave DeGolyer from Explore Steuben shared details about the upcoming activities, from maple syrup-making to St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
Maple Syrup Weekend at Y at Watson Woods

“It's that time of year again,” said DeGolyer. “Maple Syrup Weekend at the Y at Watson Woods is always a favorite, especially for families. It's a great opportunity to get hands-on with the maple syrup process, from collecting sap to making syrup and candy.”
The event, running from 3 p.m. Friday to noon Sunday, offers guests the chance to experience a range of activities, including hayrides, outdoor cooking, archery, hiking, arts and crafts, and more. Lodging options are available, and meals are provided. Weekend rates are $100 for adults and $50 for children, with a two-night hotel stay available for $160. Day passes are also offered for $15 for ages 13 and up, $7 for ages 3-12, and free for children under 2.

St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations in Hornell

Hornell’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities will kick off with the Shamrock Fun Run at 9 a.m. and a 5K race at 9:30 a.m. “It’s a fun way to get the community out and moving, while also celebrating St. Patrick’s Day,” DeGolyer said.
The day will continue with Hornell’s popular parade, which starts at 11 a.m. and will follow Genesee St. to Main Place. “The parade is a huge draw, and there’s always a great turnout,” DeGolyer said. “It’s a day for the entire family, with music, food, and plenty of Irish cheer.”

Bluebird Day at Bluebird Trail Farm

Bluebird enthusiasts can enjoy a guided walk along the farm's Bluebird Trail, learning about Eastern Bluebirds and other native species. Visitors will also have the opportunity to build their own bluebird house to take home. “It’s a peaceful, educational day out on the farm, and a great way to connect with nature,” DeGolyer said.

Barn Jam Happy Hour at Point of the Bluff Vineyards

Point of the Bluff Vineyards will host a Barn Jam on March 19, offering live acoustic music, small bites, and drinks in a cozy setting. “This is a great way to unwind after a busy day, enjoy good music, and sample some exclusive wines,” DeGolyer said. The event is free, but RSVPs are encouraged.
